Rio Ferdinand agrees with Manchester United fans about Cristiano Ronaldo this season

Rio Ferdinand has agreed with Manchester United fans about Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo finished the season as United's leading scorer with 24 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions. The forward endured his longest goal drought for over a decade across the hectic festive period but he emphatically put an end to that barren run.

The 37-year-old scored 18 of those goals in the Premier League and only Mohamed Salah (23) and Son Heung-Min (23) finished the campaign with more. Ronaldo often single-handedly won United matches with his goals this season.

Despite Ronaldo's contribution, United still finished the campaign with their lowest ever Premier League points total.

United fans have unanimously agreed that United have let down Ronaldo this season and Ferdinand shares that opinion.

"On a personal level he does what Ronaldo does, he scores goals, he wins games and without Ronaldo they don't get out the knockout stages of the Champions League," Ferdinand told FootballJOE's YouTube channel.

"He's scored winning goals multiple times and he has held up his side of the bargain. I think the club obviously hasn't played their role in terms of giving him the platform for success.

"It just shows you that great players, those in conversation as the best players ever - and he's one of them - you can't do it alone, you need team-mates to help and this shows that. We have to wait and see [Ronaldo in Ten Hag's plans].

"This is something we need to wait for and give it time."
