Ring/Rackard/Meagher round-up: Meath edge past Derry

Meath dug out a hard-earned 1-21 to 1-19 win over Derry in their Christy Ring Cup clash in Owenbeg.

Having had the breeze behind them in the opening period, Meath were 0-14 to 0-10 ahead at half-time.

However a red card for James Toher just before the break left the facing into a real battle on the turnaround.

A Cormac O'Doherty penalty helped Derry into a 1-14 to 0-15 lead but a Nicky Potterton maximum gave the Royal County a massive shot in the arm and they held on for their second win of the Christy Ring campaign. They face Tyrone next Saturday.

Wickow hammered Armagh by 20 points in their Nicky Rackard meeting on Saturday.

Armagh enjoyed a bright start, with Tomas Galvin and Fionntan Donnelly goaling inside the first 15 minutes.

Once Wicklow found their grove though, they never looked back.

They were 2-11 to 3-04 up by half-time and then went up a few gears thereafter.

Armagh managed just 0-03 in the second half as Wicklow powered to an emphatic victory.

Cavan conceded five goals but still earned a 14-point home win over Lancashire to move to the top of the Lory Meagher Cup table.

The home side had ran up a comfortable 14-point half-time advantage at Kingspan Breffni, posting a huge 2-20 in the first period, and that would remain the margin when the full-time whistle sounded.

It was actually Lancashire who started the brighter as a Darragh Carroll goal helped them into a 1-02 to 0-01 lead early on with Breffni shot-stopper Darren Sheridan called into action soon after.
