Rico Lewis teased by Man City teammates after England call

Manchester City players teased Rico Lewis about his England call-up when he returned from international duty this month.

Lewis, who has only just turned 19, was a surprise name in Gareth Southgate's squad after a meteoric rise under Pep Guardiola and the teenager was awarded man of the match for his performance in the 1-1 draw with North Macedonia. Having become the second-youngest Englishman to debut for the national team, more progress this season could see Lewis be selected for the European Championship next summer in Germany.

There was obvious delight from Guardiola and all the City players at the recognition Lewis has received. However, that did not stop them from warning him not to go 'big time' on them all when he got back - something the defender says there is little chance of!

"It was amazing, a very proud moment for me and my family. Now it is about carrying on working hard and trying to work on everything I can do.," said Lewis. "I'm far from a complete player so I just need to work on everything I can.

"Everyone [at City] was really nice and said well done and congratulations but also don't go big time on us so I won't do that! Pep said congratulations and told me to keep working. It's not my decision [whether I go to Euros]. I'd love to go but it's Gareth's decision."
