Richard Keys slams VAR after Harry Maguire incident during Manchester United defeat to Fulham

Richard Keys believes that VAR 'is a waste of time' after Harry Maguire avoided a red card during Manchester United's 2-1 Premier League defeat to Fulham.

During the game at Old Trafford, Maguire made a late tackle on Sasa Lukic, which resulted in only a yellow card from referee Michael Oliver. The booking was then followed by a lengthy delay as the Fulham man received treatment, while no reviews were conducted by VAR Stockley Park.

Maguire later scored a late goal that seemed like it was going to secure them a draw. However, Fulham claimed all three points when Alex Iwobi scored in injury time.

However, Keys was left bemused by the decision not to send the England international off, suggesting that the technology is pointless when Oliver is in charge as 'no one will contradict him'.

He posted on X: "Harry Maguire is a very lucky boy. As clear a red as you'll see all weekend and he was only booked by Michael Oliver. VAR is a waste of time when Oliver refs. No one will contradict him."

Speaking after the defeat, United boss Erik Ten Hag said: "We struggled with their influence and their impact on our left side. But we reacted well and how to deal with it, how to step up from the back and once we had that we got more from the game and took control to create the chances.

"The team showed big character to fight back, we deserved the equaliser and went for the win - we showed big personality and character. It was that mistake. Before that we went for the win and we should have taken our opportunities."
