Richard Jensen demands Aberdeen FC flops 'take a look in the mirror' as honest defender says excuses don't fly

Richard Jensen believes the promise of huge rewards this week can surge much-needed energy into faltering Aberdeen.

Just three months into the season, it simply has to because the heat is firmly on. Boss Barry Robson and his under-fire troops are bang under scrutiny starting on Wednesday against Motherwell at Fir Park and then on to Hibs at Hampden on Saturday as they aim to get back on Premiership track and snare a spot in the Viaplay Cup Final.

It’s a monumental moment in the campaign. Potentially a crossroads point for the term. Aberdeen were subjected to boos from their own disgruntled travelling support during the defeat at Kilmarnock as concerns deepened. A season that promised much is threatening to unravel spectacularly after a reasonable start which included a strong display in defeat to Celtic and a fighting draw with Hacken which gave the Reds a real shot at making the Europa League.

However, defeat to the Swedes at home and back-to-back losses to Hibs and Hearts quickly put Robson and his team under the spotlight. The initial response was impressive. Huge wins over Ross County in league and cup, a massive triumph over Rangers at Ibrox and a terrific showing against Eintracht in Frankfurt moved things back on course again.

However, another deeply-worrying downward spiral has since ensued within the Reds. Weak home draws with Helsinki and St Johnstone halted the improved run which has now taken in the loss of a 2-0 lead at home to PAOK and the woeful effort in Ayrshire.

There is no doubt continental action is having an effect as it has done to many clubs forced to play Thursday-Sunday. But with no wins in five Euro outings coupled with just two successes from nine Premiership games is a grim return.
