Ricardo Pereira’s brilliant final thought before making Leicester City history vs PSV

Leicester City match-winner Ricardo Pereira was happy that his shot didn't go over the bar as it fell to him to score the winning goal vs PSV.

The full-back was in the right place at the right time to put City into the semi-final of the Europa Conference League on Friday night. The Portuguese finished into the bottom corner after Patson Daka’s shot was saved by PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo.

The 88th-minute strike completed the City turnaround in the Netherlands in the 2-1 victory. Eran Zahavi opened the scoring for PSV in the first half before James Maddison equalised in the 77th minute.

Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Ricardo said that there was always a belief that they would turn the game around. “After losing 1-0 at half time, a dramatic game away, it was nice, we fought until the end,” he said.

“We knew that the crowd would be like that, we knew we’d have to stay together and fight and that’s what we did. At half time, even losing we believed that we could make the difference and turn around the game and that’s what we did. We fought until the end and we were happy at the end.”

The full-back also revealed his thoughts as he approached the rebounded ball to put City ahead in the final minutes of the game. "It was nice to be there,” he said of the position he found himself in. “I thought for the ball, don’t go up!"

City will now take on Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in the semi-final with the Italian club visiting the King Power Stadium on April 28. City will then travel to Rome a week later in the second leg as they look to make more history.
