Ricardo Pereira injury update as Brendan Rodgers reveals Leicester City blow

Leicester City defender Ricardo Pereira will be out for six months, manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.

The City full-back went down injured during the first half of the pre-season showpiece friendly against Sevilla last Sunday. Though he walked off the pitch after receiving treatment, he is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Ricardo had a scan earlier this week, and an operation yesterday, with Rodgers revealing the news at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of Sunday's game against Brentford.

“It was looking really good, but we’ve picked up injuries against Sevilla," Rodgers said. "Sadly, Ricardo will be out for up to six months with a ruptured Achilles. A lot of our game idea was about our full-backs and him in particular. He was looking so good.

"It’s a massive blow to him. He had an operation last night. He’ll get up again and get strong. Harvey (Barnes) came off and he may be out for a few weeks. Apart from that, the squad is ok.”

On how Ricardo's injury happened, Rodgers said: “It just snapped. He’s looked so good in pre-season. He’ll be a big miss for us.” As for Barnes' injury, the manager added: “Hopefully he won’t be too long and he can come back and pick up where he left off.”
