Retirement U-turn? Tyson Fury’s wife Paris gives him permission to take unification fight

Tyson Fury’s wife Paris does not believe the WBC champion has hung up his gloves for good just yet and feels he would return to the ring for a unification fight – with her blessing.

The Gypsy King knocked out Dillian Whyte with a stunning sixth-round uppercut at Wembley on Saturday night and claimed afterwards that he would be stepping away from boxing, saying: ‘This might be the final curtain for the Gypsy King.’

He later teased the possibility of fighting UFC superstar Francis Ngannou in a hybrid fight as well as returning to WWE to take on Drew McIntyre.

But Paris feels the lure of taking on the winner of Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk and unifying the division in a gargantuan undisputed fight would be too big an opportunity for Tyson to turn down.

Asked how it felt to hear Tyson say he was retiring, Paris told Seconds Out: ‘It is a relief. I’ve got to be truthful, I’ve wanted Tyson to retire for a while.

‘I don’t think he has anything left to prove in boxing, he doesn’t need to keep fighting on and he has done everything to show the world that he is the greatest.

‘So to keep fighting, what is he going to gain? He doesn’t need to be more famous; we’ve got everything we could ever want.

‘So realistically I hope he does retire but the truth is, in the bottom of my heart, I think if the unification fight came up, I think he would go for it.
