Republic and Northern Ireland paired in Nations League

The Republic of Ireland have been paired with Northern Ireland in the inaugural Women's Nations League.

Vera Pauw’s side will also face Hungary and Albania in League B.

Northern Ireland are currently without a manager following the departure of Kenny Shiels.

They competed in the most recent European Championships under Shiels.

The teams last met competitively in qualifying for the 2019 World Cup.

The Nations League will be the first tournament Ireland play after the 2023 edition in New Zealand and Australia, with games from September to February.

The winners of the group will be promoted to League A.

Tallaght Stadium will be the home venue for Pauw's side.

She said: "Now that we know our opponents for the UEFA Women's Nations League, we can start planning accordingly. But our priority for the next few months will, understandably, will be on preparing for FIFA Women's World Cup 2023.

"For these UEFA Nations League games, we are under no illusion that they will be difficult challenges for us.

"We are the top-seeded team in League B but we cannot take anything for granted if we are to achieve our aim of topping our group and qualifying into League A."
