Report reveals Man City agreed telling £128m Erling Haaland clause as part of new signing
Erling Haaland will reportedly have a release clause worth £128million after two seasons of his new five-year Manchester City contract.
City have continued to spend on top new signings in recent seasons to keep Pep Guardiola’s side competing for silverware. Last summer, the Citizens paid £100million for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish.
Guardiola also wanted Tottenham striker Harry Kane last summer but a deal never materialised. The manager subsequently admitted in February that he initially feared for his squad’s capability without a striker.
As a result, City made a top new centre-forward a key priority for this summer. And they have snapped up the hottest prospect around in Borussia Dortmund marksman Haaland.
City paid his £51million release clause, which became active in his Dortmund deal from the upcoming market onwards.
In a telling similarity, Bild has now claimed that City have agreed to put a similar structure in place for their deal with Haaland.
Indeed, the striker will be available for £128million after two years of his five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.
The clause could prove irrelevant if City hand the Norway international a new deal before the end of the 2023/24 season.
However, should Haaland’s future remain unresolved, it could create fresh transfer speculation about the striker.
At the age of only 21, the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain may well fancy their chances of a deal for him in the future.
For now, though, Haaland’s move to City could well be a game-changer for the club – and for the Premier League.
City do not suffer a lack of goals without a recognised striker in their team.
