Remorseless man killed 'cheeky' baby girl - then made up vicious lies to cover his vile crime

A man has been found guilty of killing a 'happy, cheeky' baby girl.

A jury convicted Brandon Heath, 22, of the manslaughter of the 22-month-old following a three-week trial at Chester Crown Court. He was found not guilty of murder and will be sentenced on Tuesday (March 8).

The court heard how on Sunday, August 30, 2020, Heath called for an ambulance after claiming he had found the 22-month-old ‘collapsed’ on the floor having just got her out of her high chair. She was taken to hospital but died of a traumatic brain injury.

He then lied to police - claiming he had found her on the floor after she had become 'whingy' - and even blamed the baby's mother, who wasn't even in the house at the time. But experts found the girl had died from an injury that could not have been an accident.

The court heard how paramedics had attended the address in Northwich, Cheshire, and found the child in the first floor bedroom, struggling to breathe with an abnormal swelling to the back of her head.

Heath was the only adult present at the address and told a paramedic that she had fallen off a bed and must have hit her head. She had then become sleepy so he brought her upstairs and left her in the bedroom for a moment, returning to find her struggling to breathe, he said.

He then told another paramedic that he had found her on the floor in a lethargic state. Due to her injuries, police attended and spoke with both Heath and the child’s mother who had returned from dropping a friend at work.
