‘Remarkable’, ‘Failure on our part’ – Many Charlton fans react to latest player departure

After signing for the club just a few months ago, Charlie Kirk has made a swift departure from Charlton Athletic for pastures new.

The 24-year-old arrived in the summer from the Addicks’ League One rivals Crewe Alexandra after the London outfit met the £500,000 release clause in his contract at Gresty Road.

Having scored six times and provided eight assists in the 2020-21 campaign in League One, Kirk was expected to provide a creative spark when Nigel Adkins purchased him.

Kirk featured five times under Adkins and bagged an assist against Fleetwood Town, but since Johnnie Jackson took over as manager he has barely featured, coming off the bench just twice in league matches.

A switch to a system that doesn’t involve wingers has hampered Kirk and Jackson seems unwilling to utilise him as a wing back.

Despite his lack of game-time, Kirk has managed to secure himself a move to the Championship with Blackpool signing the wide player on loan until the end of the season, with the Seasiders holding the option to make it a permanent switch in the summer.

Addicks fans have been reacting to the news of Kirk’s move to Lancashire – let’s see what they have been saying.

Failure on our part. Will definitely come back to bite us should Blackpool decide to buy him. #cafc https://t.co/l26kzurKAN
