Red Bull's Helmut Marko enjoys 'fun' battles with Ferrari, but says they're 'doing everything wrong'

Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko feels Ferrari has done everything wrong to lag behind his team in the Formula 1 Championship so far this season.

At the halfway stage of the season, Max Verstappen leads the Drivers' standing by 80 points ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, while in the Constructors' championship, Red Bull enjoys a 97 points lead over the Italian team.

In an interview, when asked by OE24 why Ferrari's season had imploded after the opening three races, Marko said: "By doing pretty much everything wrong.

"In Budapest, for example, for the first time, they didn't give the tyres the right temperature window and also chose the wrong pit strategy.

"I don't understand why they didn't take used Mediums. They would have been better."

'So much fun'

Marko added that the Red Bull team were really enjoying this F1 season far more than last year's battle with Mercedes, saying: "It has rarely been so much fun.

"Almost every weekend is a pleasure, quite different from last season where everything cost a lot of nerves. It's just a bit of a shame that Ferrari makes so many mistakes. They are beaten below their value; we really feel sorry for them.

"But once again: They will be back. They have such a strong car."

The 79-year-old Marko said they would not take things easy, when asked, despite their big lead in the standings, stating: "Don't say that: we still have nine races, that's 225 points for nine possible wins plus sprint and fastest laps.

"No, no, we really can't lean back yet."
