Red Bull 'expect no problems' as they reveal cause of Bahrain GP retirement is fixed

Red Bull will be keener than most to get racing this weekend at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix as they look to put events of the Bahrain Grand Prix firmly behind them.

Formula 1 can be a cruel business sometimes and the Bulls were certainly on the end of that last weekend as both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez suffered late retirements, within a few laps of one another, to turn a good points haul into nothing come the chequered flag.

Certainly, it’s always a shock to see a team handed a double retirement, particularly when it’s a technical fault in the modern age, but perhaps there was always the chance of it happening given the cars are totally different for 2022.

That said, Red Bull believe that they have now solved the issue, and that they should have no issues this weekend in Saudi.

A team statement read ahead of the weekend:

“Both cars suffered from a lack of fuel pressure last weekend.

“The correct amount of fuel was in both cars, but a vacuum prevented the pumps from drawing fuel and delivering it to the engine.

“We’ve taken the necessary steps to correct this issue and we expect no problems this weekend.”

It was pretty eye-brow raising to see both Red Bull cars suffering the same fate towards the end of the race last weekend, in what proved to be an awful opener for the men from Milton Keynes.

Even so, they should be buoyed by the fact that they had genuinely strong race pace and that should mean they are challenging Ferrari once more for victory this weekend in Saudi.

How much those dropped points from last weekend costs them in the grand scheme of the season, though, will only be made clear come the end of the campaign.
