Real Madrid's senior players helped Ancelotti mastermind comeback vs Man City

Carlo Ancelotti will have the chance to win his fourth Champions League title as a manager on May 28.

The Italian icon’s Real Madrid side qualified for the final on Wednesday night after a legendary two-legged battle with Manchester City.

Los Blancos won the tie 6-5 on aggregate following an astonishing 3-1 comeback victory at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It’s a match that will rank as one of the greatest in Ancelotti’s glittering managerial career and he certainly made some big calls to help turn the tide.

By the 75th minute, he’d withdrawn Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro from the field of play and replaced them with youngsters.

It certainly paid off, although it seems Ancelotti was not alone in making the decisions that helped instigate the comeback.

According to Kroos, who was replaced by the Rodrygo Goes in the 68th minute, the Real Madrid boss leaned on the wisdom of the senior players beside him.

The German midfielder told DAZN after the game: “The coach himself had a few doubts about who he would bring on and who not to bring on.

“We (Madrid’s players) have all seen a few football games ourselves. That allows you to exchange ideas a bit.

“That describes him (Ancelotti) really well and why things always work well with the team. It’s outstanding. In the end he decides, but of course he’s interested in our opinion.”

Listening to those packed full of footballing knowledge? A very wise call by Ancelotti.

Footage on social media shows one of the moments the former Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain boss asked for advice off of Kroos and club captain Marcelo while Jesus Vallejo prepared to enter the fray.
