Real Madrid: Perez has ‘not given up’ on landing €192m superstar at the Bernabeu

Real Madrid have ‘not given up’ in their attempts to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, but will struggle to complete a deal in the coming transfer windows, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

President Florentino Perez oversaw a summer expenditure of €83 million at the Bernabeu but has his sights set on one of Europe’s most high-profile stars.

The 23-year-old is pushing to leave the Ligue 1 champions after he was left feeling ‘betrayed’, according to French football expert Julien Laurens.

The journalist adds that, when Mbappe penned a new contract in May, he was promised Neymar would be sold and that a new striker would be signed for him to partner in attack.

It is understood that PSG have no intention of selling the player – who cost them €192 million when he signed from Monaco back in 2017 – and would only entertain offers of over €347 million.

However, following the club’s 1-0 win over Marseille last weekend, Mbappe insisted he ‘never asked to leave’ the Parc des Princes and that he is ‘very happy’ with his situation.

Jacobs understands that the La Liga giants remain intent on signing Mbappe moving forward.

The journalist adds, however, that they likely don’t stand a chance of completing a deal until the next two seasons have past.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “Well, I think that this has become about Real wanting to get one over PSG. I still think they're so bitter about how the Mbappe pursuit panned out from their perspective that there's a part of them that just doesn't want to give up and, naturally, you would be getting a world-class footballer. I don't think Real for example, in January, have got any viable possibility of getting Mbappe, but I also don't think they've given up in the long term.”
