Real Madrid fans pay tribute to Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo following death of baby boy

Real Madrid fans showed their support for Cristiano Ronaldo and his family as their side were crowned La Liga champions over the weekend. Real secured the Spanish top-flight title with a 4-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday, the 35th time they have won the trophy.

It was also a historic day for manager Carlo Ancelotti, who became the first manager in history to win the league in all five of Europe's major leagues.

Despite the success for the club and its manager, Real supporters used the match as a chance to showcase their love for club legend Ronaldo, who spent nine years at the club when he left Manchester United back in 2009.

During the seventh minute of the match, fans all around the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium joined in on a chorus of 'Cristiano!' in recognition of Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez following the tragic death of their baby boy last month.

The football community rallied around the 37-year-old after the passing of his newborn twin son last month. In their recent clash at Anfield, Liverpool supporters stood to applaud with United fans in the seventh minute, while Arsenal fans did the same when the sides met at The Emirates.

Both gestures were recognised and thanked by the Portugal international who, after scoring against Arsenal, made an emotional celebration, pointing to the sky in memory of his son.

Real Madrid played at home for the first time since the tragic news, with Real supporters keen to show their love for the club-record goalscorer and his family.
