Real Betis' Rui Silva pulls of save of season contender at Sociedad

Real Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva pulled off one of the saves of the season to deny Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak in Los Verdiblancos' 4-0 Copa del Rey victory on Thursday night.

With Betis leading 1-0 shortly after half-time, Swedish striker Isak thought he had levelled when he latched onto Mikel Ozaryabal's cross just a few yards out with all of the goal gaping.

Isak hit a powerful effort but goalkeeper Silva somehow managed to meet it with an outstretched arm to keep his side ahead - which propped the visitors up to a cruising victory in San Sebastian.

Fans could not believe their eyes when they saw Portuguese shot stopper Silva meet the effort and took to social media to share their disbelief.

One even described the stop as 'one of the best I have ever seen' while Spanish news outlet Marca compared the 27-year-old to Iker Casillas after making the save.

Goals form former Sociedad strikers Juanmi and Willian Jose earned Betis a spot in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, even though they were on the backfoot at San Sebastian for most of the game.

As well as Silva's wonder stop from Isak, Betis were fortunate that VAR intervened to deny Sociedad a first-half equaliser through Adnan Januzaj - as Ozaryabal was spotted in an offside position in the build-up by the video technology.

The deadlock was broken in the first-half when Betis midfielder William Carvalho shrugged off Ander Guevara on the byline, before squaring to Juanmi who finished low in the corner.

Juanmi refused to celebrate against his former club - a feat he repeated in the second period when he steered home Sergi Canales' cross from the left.
