Reading FC first-teamer makes contract revelation amid potential summer exit

Reading goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has revealed he will engage in talks over a potential contract extension at the end of the campaign, speaking to the Reading Chronicle.

The Norwegian was signed by the Royals last month following an injury to previous loanee Karl Hein – and became the fourth goalkeeper to make his mark between the sticks for the second-tier side this season with the now-departed Rafael, Hein and current backup shot-stopper Luke Southwood all enduring starting spells.

He has enjoyed a reasonably promising start to his career at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, distributing the ball well on his debut against former club AFC Bournemouth and making a couple of important saves in what looks to be a crucial 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers before the international break.

His mistake for Romaine Sawyers’ Stoke City goal last week was a low moment – but he has proved to be a reasonably reassuring figure at the back since his arrival as he looks to put himself in the shop window or earn himself another deal in Berkshire.

He was only able to sign a short-term deal at his current side last month due to the restrictions the Royals are currently under – but with a business plan in place – they will now be clearer on what they can and cannot afford to offer to players to extend their respective stays at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

One man who is seemingly open to spending more time at the club is Nyland, who endured a tough spell at Bournemouth earlier this season but has finally found his feet at his current side.
