Reading FC confirm positive news regarding fan favourite

Pictures from their Bearwood Park training ground show the defender back on the grass as he prepares to return from a foot injury.

McIntyre, 23, went down hurt against Coventry four months ago and hobbled off the pitch after the hour mark. He has been out of action ever since that August afternoon.

It was first reported that the centre back would miss up to three months, but his recovery has taken longer than expected.

“It goes without saying, we’re all delighted to see Tom nearing a return to action after over four months on the sidelines, since he last pulled on a Royals shirt back in August,” wrote the club on its official website.

“McIntyre was joined by members of the coaching team for some ball work, running and heading drills which mark the next step on his journey.”

Lucas Joao, Andy Rinomhota and Yakou Meite are all also reaching a return to full fitness.

Reading are in need of all these players to come back into the side, with the squad currently looking a little thin.

McIntyre played 26 times in the Championship last season, so his absence has been felt in the side.

Reading find themselves in the thick of a relegation battle and will need all hands on deck going into the second half of the season.

Veljko Paunovic’s side are currently 21st in the table, with 22 points from 27 games. The Royals are only two points clear of the relegation zone, with 22nd place Peterborough also having a game in hand.

Reading are on a four game losing streak, with their next opponents coming on January 29 as they face the in-form Queens Park Rangers.

Reading are in horrible form and will need the boost of these players coming back into the side.

Given the negativity around the club, the fans also need this kind of good news
