Reaction to Turkey's 2-1 win over Czech Republic at Euro 2024

HAMBURG, Germany :Reaction after Turkey beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in their Euro 2024 Group F match on Wednesday to reach the last 16.

Czech captain Tomas Soucek: "It is a disappointment because we all wanted to advance. We were set up for it. I thought that was enough... and it is a disappointment because we didn't make it.

"I said before the match that I hope it will not happen (the sending-off). It's the third match and I think it's disrespectful to our country. But of course there are many situations that we should have handled as a team."

"It was difficult. We knew that to get goal would be complicated, we didn't want to give up a goal. We were happy to get the equaliser... Everyone did the maximum. The morale was huge. Just a sad end."

"We had some bad luck in goals. There was bad luck with decisions. But that is football. Sometimes it works, sometimes not."

Czech centre back Tomas Holes: "The match was really difficult. Unfortunately, we got the red card. Before that we were practically playing as a block and tried to play on breaks... We played hard to the last moment. But unfortunately it didn't work out."

"One point is too little. It was a failure... We were not bad in the matches. We didn't have luck. Maybe it was a result of a young team."

Turkey defender Mert Muldur: "We all fought very well together. Normally, we had a hard time against such teams in the past… I think we have improved now."

Turkey winger Baris Alper Yilmaz: "I want to be as useful to the team as possible. It was a really difficult match. We made it to the last 16, we are very happy."

"When we talked with our friends before the camp, our only goal was to get out of the group. We kept our promise and left the group. Now we will proceed step by
