RB Leipzig vs Man City LIVE early team news and predictions ahead of Champions League fixture

Manchester City travel to RB Leipzig this evening for the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.

City have a point to prove this evening after they were held to a frustrating draw by Nottingham Forest at the weekend. For the most part, the Blues dominated their opponents at the City Ground but only had one goal for their good play.

Chris Wood's late equaliser for Forest would not only see the points shared but also leave the Blues lagging in the Premier League title race. Pep Guardiola's men are now two points behind Arsenal who also have a game in hand.

However, tonight lends a good opportunity for City to turn their attention away from the league campaign. Marco Rose's Bundesliga side are fifth in their table, one point behind fourth place SC Freiburg.

Leipzig finished a close second to Group F winners Real Madrid in the group stages with Shakhtar Donetsk and Celtic finishing comfortably behind them. City meanwhile won their group ahead of Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and FC Copenhagen.

Well this will not go down well with Man City fans

The Dutch defender has explained what the aim is for Man City this season in the Champions League ahead of tonight's trip to Leipzig.

Speaking to the press, Ake said:

Every competition we play there's pressure, every game we have to win. You know, when you're at a club like Man City you want to win every trophy possible. That’s no different for the Champions League, we go into this game with the same mentality that we want to win this game and progress and that's our aim for the Premier League, for all the cups and it's no different for the Champions League. Obviously we want to win it.
