Rasmus Hojlund needs more from Manchester United teammates if he's to reach the next level

When Rasmus Hojlund returned to the away dressing room inside the DW Stadium on Monday night, he was unlikely to get the kind of reaction that Roy Keane would have handed down if the Dane was his teammate.

A routine night for United in the north west was made a little more stressful by Hojlund's off-night in front of goal, with the 20-year-old fluffing a couple of excellent chances and looking a little rusty. But it never looked like Erik ten Hag's team would be made to pay for such wastefulness.

And while Hojlund's four shots should have produced a goal, Marcus Rashford (eight), Bruno Fernandes (six) and Scott McTominay (six) all tried their luck more often than the 20-year-old. Only Fernandes of those four scored and that was from a penalty.

So that United had to wait to put the game to bed shouldn't fall solely at the feet - or head - of Hojlund, but as he is discovering, being the striker at this club brings with it a responsibility and scrutiny unlike anything he's experienced before. Keane's critique was merely the latest example of that.

“I’d be fuming with him,” Keane said after United booked safe passage in the fourth round. “We wanted United to show a different side of their game tonight, but they’ve brought their habits from the Premier League into tonight, in terms of missing chances and not being clinical.
