Raptors' VanVleet out for Game 5 vs. 76ers

The Toronto Raptors will be without Fred VanVleet for Game 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a strained hip flexor, according to TSN's Josh Lewenberg. VanVleet left Toronto's 110-102 Game 4 win in the first half with the injury.

Fred VanVleet is OUT for Game 5

VanVleet, 28, told reporters he will take the injury day by day from this point. The MRI on his hip didn't reveal anything "too major", VanVleet said. He didn't rule out the possibility of playing later in the series if the Raptors were to force a Game 6, but did not sound optimistic about the possibility.

“I’m always going to leave that window open but it’ll probably take some time," said VanVleet. "I would feel great about maybe playing in the next round. Nobody believes we can do it but I think we can. I’m going to stay positive and get as much rehab as I can.”

Fortunately MRI on VanVleet’s left hip didn’t reveal anything “too major”, he said. They’re going to take it day by day in terms of treatment. He didn’t rule out the possibility of playing later in the series, if it’s extended, but didn’t sound optimistic.

The Raptors face elimination in tonight's game as they trail the 76ers 3-1 in the series. Toronto is looking to become the first team in NBA history to win a series after being down 3-0 in a series.

VanVleet averaged 20.3 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game this season, earning an All-Star nod for the first time in his career.
