Ranking every team to win league, cup, Champions League treble - ESPN
With Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France already done and dusted, Paris Saint-Germain have now set their sights on UEFA Champions League glory in their quest to complete what would be a historic European treble.
Luis Enrique's side will come up against Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena to contest the 2024-25 Champions League final this weekend, with the French side desperate to claim what would be only their second-ever European trophy and their first since winning the old UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1996.
With the French league title clinched at the beginning of April and the cup hoisted aloft earlier this month, PSG are in indomitable form and on the cusp of a domestic and European clean sweep. Should they beat Inter in Munich, the Parisians will become only the ninth club in the history of men's football to achieve a European treble — joining the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Inter themselves. Barça and Bayern are the only clubs to have achieved it twice.
There have been 10 trebles won since the European Cup was first established in 1955, with more than half of them coming since the turn of the century. In fact, only four trebles were won in the 45-year period during which they were possible in the 20th century, while a running total of six have been claimed since the year 2000 — including a flurry of three in the five years between 2008-09 and 2012-13.
Manchester City are the most recent club to add their name to the honor roll, beating Inter in the Champions League final in 2023. That sealed the rare feat for Pep Guardiola's side that, to this day, has eluded continental heavyweights such as AC Milan and Real Madrid, the two most successful clubs in the history of the European Cup with 21 wins
