Rangers win Scottish Women’s Cup to seal silverware double and ease title pain as Hearts put to the sword at Hampden

Rangers Women are celebrating a domestic cup double after defeating Hearts 2-0 in the final of the Scottish Cup at Hampden.

Rangers went into the clash after missing out on the SWPL title in agonising circumstances, finishing behind winner's Celtic by virtue of goal difference. But with 25 minutes on the clock, they went in front courtesy of a superb strike from distance by Rachel McLaughlan that left Jambos keeper Charlotte Parker-Smith with no chance.

Jo Potter's side tried to press home their advantage in the second half, but a combination of some poor finishing and stubborn Hearts defending prevented them from adding to their lead. However, that pressure on Eva Olid's team eventually proved to be too much, and the Light Blues wrapped up the trophy when Rachel Rowe teed up Scotland international Lizzie Arnott to guide the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The triumph has capped off a fine first season in charge for former England international Potter, who led her side to glory in the Sky Sports' Cup with a 4-1 win over Partick Thistle back in March. The female team's victory also came less than 24 hours after Philippe Clement's Rangers had fallen to a dramatic 1-0 loss to Celtic in their own Scottish Cup final.
