Rangers will be 'looking to sign two players' in key position at Ibrox

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst could look to boost his goalkeeping department by luring two shot-stoppers to Ibrox, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Having been appointed as the Gers’ chief last November, van Bronckhorst is looking to put his own stamp on the squad he inherited ahead of a first full season at the helm.

According to The Sun, Rangers and Premier League new-boys Bournemouth are battling it out to sign Jack Butland from Crystal Palace.

The report suggests the nine-cap England international has been added to van Bronckhorst’s shortlist of targets as he aims to guide the Glasgow giants back into the Champions League.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Rangers have previously expressed an interest in signing Sam Johnstone, who has attracted admirers from a number of clubs.

Johnstone is set to become a free agent in a matter of days as his £18,000-per-week West Bromwich Albion contract will expire on June 30, but Crystal Palace appear to have won the race for his signature.

Van Bronckhorst has set his sights on bringing in a new man between the sticks as there is uncertainty over Allan McGregor’s future and fellow goalkeeper Andy Firth will officially leave Ibrox at the end of the month.

O’Rourke believes van Bronckhorst is keen to bring in a new first choice goalkeeper and has not ruled out the possibility of welcoming two custodians to Glasgow.
