Rangers told the hurdles they MUST clear to land £25m Club World Cup jackpot as 4 clubs battle it out

Rangers will require an extended run in the Europa League if they are going to clinch their place in the revamped edition of the lucrative FIFA Club World Cup.

The Premiership side are, as it stands, one of the 12 UEFA teams who would play in the money-spinning event in June and July in the USA - but there is plenty of football to play before the tournament with the race for tournament heating up. The Club World Cup is expected to land each club involved £25million with Rangers recent European exploits catapulting them up the coefficient rankings.

The last four Champions League winners qualify automatically including the winners from this season - with the remaining spot decided on the coefficients over the same four-year time period. As it stands Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City and this season’s Champions League winners would be joined by Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Villarreal, Roma, PSG, Benfica, Ajax and the Ibrox side.

Rangers coefficient ranking over the last three years - which include two extended Europa League runs and reaching the Champions League group stage - will have to be added to by Philippe Clement this term with four teams battling it out. As it stands the Light Blues four year coefficient sits at 41.000 points.

But Salzburg, Club Brugge, Shakhtar Donetsk and Slavia Prague are all narrowly behind. The Austrian side pose a major threat as they sit just 2.0 coefficients point behind the Scottish Premiership side. They have already picked up six coefficient points this term from their Champions League campaign. In contrast, Rangers have three so far this term - with the Europa League group finely points. Gers, Aris Limassol, Real Betis and Sparta Prague all sit on three points going into Thursday
