Rangers star given Ian Durrant comparisons from famous fan as he calls for more first team chances

Rangers diehard Andy Cameron believes Alex Lowry reminds him of Ian Durrant in his pomp, as he called for the youngster to be given more first team opportunities in the wake of their midweek Old Firm humbling to Celtic.

Gio van Bronckhorst's side were brushed aside at Celtic Park as the Hoops raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time and comfortably maintained that advantage until the final whistle.

It put Celtic a point clear of their rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership, leaving Rangers licking their wounds from a night of dismal displays across their entire squad.

That prompted comedian and well-known Bluenose Cameron to suggest perhaps Lowry should be given more opportunities after scoring on his debut in a Scottish Cup win over Stirling Albion last month and backing that up with an assured display on his first start in the next match, a 1-0 win over Livingston in the Premiership.

Uddingston starlet Lowry was an unused substitute at Celtic Park, with the Old Firm cauldron likely deemed too much pressure on the 18-year-old attacking midfielder's shoulders.

But Cameron tweeted: "Surprised there is not a lot more Rangers supporters putting up a case for Alex Lowry…he’s 18 playing like 25! Love how he reminds me of a true Rangers great Ian Durrant."

When questioned on his comments and it was suggested Lowry would need to show his talents against "better opposition", Cameron asked: "How can he do good stuff against better opposition if he’s sitting on the bench?"

Lowry's next opportunity could come tomorrow when Rangers host Hearts at Ibrox as they aim to bounce back from only their second league defeat of the campaign.

New signing Aaron Ramsay, who joined on loan from Juventus, is also in the squad for the clash.
