Rangers: Shock Ibrox transfer decision could be 'waste of money'

Rangers’ move for star midfielder Aaron Ramsey could prove to be a ‘waste of time and a waste of money’, according to senior Gers journalist Chris Jack.

There was much fanfare when the 31-year-old arrived on a six-month loan deal from Juventus during the January transfer window, with Ally McCoist even likening his arrival to that of Paul Gascoigne’s 1995 switch.

Throughout his career, Ramsey has established himself as one of the most talented British midfielders in the modern era, racking up 130 goal contributions in 371 appearances for Arsenal throughout an 11-year spell.

In that time, he claimed three FA Cups before departing on a free transfer to Juve where he added to his trophy collection, securing a Serie A title and an Italian Cup.

However, following the return of Massimiliano Allegri to the Old Lady dugout last summer, Ramsey saw his first-team opportunities become extremely limited, reducing him to just 98 minutes of league action.

That led to the 71-cap Wales international joining Rangers in an attempt to revive his career, but his time with the Glasgow giants has not gone to plan so far.

After making cameo appearances off the bench against both Hibernian and Hearts, Ramsey made his full debut against Annan Athletic while on Cup duty, providing an assist before settling for a substitute’s role once again for the trip to Borussia Dortmund.

Yet a minor knock has kept him out of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s last three matchday squads, raising questions over his time at Ibrox already.

According to Sky Sports, Juve ‘had to co-operate on wages’ to ensure Ramsey fitted into Rangers’ wage structure due to his eye-watering £325,000-per-week pay
