Rangers set to make deadline day move for right-back Mateusz Zukowski

Rangers are closing in on a deadline-busting move for Polish right-back Mateusz Zukowski.

The Ibrox side are looking to bolster their squad depth after they sold Scotland full-back Nathan Patterson to Everton for a deal worth £12million plus add-ons.

And 20-year-old Lech Gdansk defender Zukowski is set to offer back-up to captain James Tavernier.

A product of the Lech academy, Zukowski is out of contract in June and has attracted interest from Polish giants Legia Warsaw.

The full-back has made 18 appearances in the Polish Ekstraklasa this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Unable to agree a new deal with Lech Gdansk Zukowski pulled out of the club’s winter training camp to speak to other clubs.

A move to Rangers is expected to be completed before tomorrow night's deadline.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has already completed January deals for American utility man James Sands and Manchester United wonderkid Amad Diallo, a scorer in Saturday’s damaging 3-3 draw with Ross County.

The 19-year-old signed for the Scottish Premier League champions on a six-month loan deal from Manchester United on Thursday.
