Rangers Scottish Cup aftermath LIVE as Gio van Bronckhorst claims first trophy with win over Hearts

It was a day to remember for Rangers at Hampden.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side outlasted Hearts in extra-time to take the Scottish Cup back to Ibrox for the first time since 2009.

Goals from Ryan Jack and Scott Wright eventually broke the Jambos' resistance after a gruelling 90 minutes yielded no breakthrough for either side.

Those strikes earned Van Bronckhorst his first trophy as Rangers manager and marks the 34th time the club have won it, ending a 13-year wait that has included some agonising near misses.

Victory also softens the blow of Wednesday's Europa League Final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt, with the players able to parade silverware in front of a huge crowd in Mount Florida.

Hearts may have left the national stadium empty handed but will reflect on what's still been a successful season upon their return to the top flight from the Championship.

Robbie Neilson's team still finished well clear in third in the Premiership and are guaranteed European group stage football next term.

Craig Gordon admits Hearts laid everything on the table against Rangers but fell short to a side which are masters at achieving triumph over adversity.

The Jambos keeper is adamant there was never any doubt Gio van Bronckhorst 's squad would galvanise themselves after their Europa League Final loss to Eintracht Frankfurt four days earlier.

There was pre-match talk of the mental drain on the Ibrox players from their exertions in Seville but Gordon has seen enough from the Light Blues this season to be convinced they'd be at full pelt for yesterday's Scottish Cup Final and despite extra-time finished the stronger.
