Rangers sack Stewart and Thelwell LIVE reaction as Kevin's son and two others survive cull

Chief executive Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell had become toxic figures in the eyes of Rangers fans.

And now chairman Andrew Cavenagh has pulled the trigger on the pair just five months after charging them with the task of leading the Light Blues into a new era.

They were responsible for the hiring of Russell Martin and that ended in disaster with the ex Scotland captain sacked after just 122 days.

Thelwell oversaw a £30million summer spend that left the Gers squad arguably weaker than it was last season.

And hiring his son as head of recruitment only made things worse as fans called out what they saw as blatant nepotism.

Cavenagh recently backed the pair at the unveiling of Martin's successor Danny Rohl.

But now the American businessman has decided to wield the axe.

It's a huge call from Cavenagh but it's one that will have the supporters celebrating.

You brought a big young lad in there (Youssef Chermiti), God help him, I genuinely hope he goes on to score
