Rangers ready to lure Leeds talent to Ibrox in move to jettison January suitors from transfer battle

Leeds United could send Crysencio Summerville north of the border to Rangers after reports suggested the Scottish side have more means to sign him than Hamburg.

Hamburg tried to take Summerville from Leeds United in the January transfer window. In fact, the winger made it clear to then-manager Marcelo Bielsa that he wanted to leave the West Yorkshire outfit.

However, although Bielsa was willing to grant him his exit wish, the move collapsed. Now, though, doubts remain as to whether Summerville will be a part of the new Leeds United era under Jesse Marsch.

Summerville made his first appearance under Marsch as a late substitute in Saturday’s win over Watford. Before that, he had not featured since an FA Cup loss to West Ham in January.

And of his nine appearances in all competitions this season, only one has been a start. That came in the Carabao Cup against Fulham in September.

At the age of 20, there should still be patience with Summerville from Leeds. What works against them, though, is the fact he is out of contract in 2023.

That means they may have to let the former Feyenoord youngster go this summer if they are to recoup a fee. Recently, Frankfurter Rundschau revealed he should have two options if he is to leave Leeds.

The first is the existing interest from Hamburg. They currently operate in the German second tier and sit in sixth place after 28 games. A top-three finish would be the minimum requirement to have any chance of promotion.

But a move to Germany could give Summerville a better chance of finding the regular gametime that is evading him at Elland Road.

Alternatively, his second suitors – according to the report – are Rangers. The Scottish giants are believed to be ahead of Hamburg, too.
