Rangers legend makes 'panicking' quip after 'off the scale' Europa League triumph leaves him dancing for joy at Ibrox

Ally McCoist was managing Rangers in Scotland's lower leagues - and it's why pondering a battle with Liverpool proves such a luxury.

The East Kilbride man was seen dancing and celebrating on the BT Sport gantry as his former club beat RB Leipzig 3-2 to reach this year's Europa League final.

He was managing the club as they made their way back to Scotland's top flight after finding themselves at the bottom of the ladder in 2012.

Now 10 years on, they will meet Frankfurt in Seville for the chance to win a major European trophy.

Liverpool meet Real Madrid in the Champions League final and should Rangers achieve glory in Spain, a game with the kings of Europe awaits.

That might be a bridge too far, but scenes at somewhere he knows the like the back of his hand will stay with EK's famous son for a long time.

He told TalkSport: "I'll tell you, it's been a great night but I've woken up this morning panicking. And I'll tell you why - I think Liverpool in the Super Cup might be a step too far for us!"

"I thought I was getting carried away last night but I'm not, I'm still getting carried away this morning.

"It was one of those unbelievable nights that European football can throw up sometimes. You think about it, quite literally nine years ago Rangers were lifting the Third Division championship against Berwick Rangers.

"Nine years on, you're in a European Final in Seville against Frankfurt.

"I'm stunned and so happy for everybody. The atmosphere last night was just ridiculous, it was off the scale."
