Rangers lead SPFL tributes to the Queen as clubs unite in mourning Her Majesty's passing

The SPFL has come together to pay tribute to the Queen following her sad passing at Balmoral, aged 96.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral after concerns had earlier been raised over her health. A statement from Buckingham Palace revealed that Her Majesty had been put under medical supervision in her Aberdeenshire residence, with other members of the Royal Family travelling to Scotland to be with her.

Following the sad news emerging from Buckingham Palace, clubs from across Scottish football have paid tribute to Her Majesty. Rangers have lowered the flag at Ibrox to half mast as they paid marked their respect. A club statement read: "The directors, management, players and staff of Rangers Football Club are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. Her Majesty served the people of Great Britain and the Commonwealth for over 70 years with incredible devotion and dignity."

Hearts were midway through their Europa Conference League clash with Istanbul Basaksehir when the news broke, and observed a minute's silence at the start of the second half in her honour. Capital side Hibs released a statement reading: "The thoughts of everyone at Hibernian Football Club are with the Royal Family following the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. RIP."

Aberdeen have also added a statement. The club tweeted: "Aberdeen FC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The club extends its sincere condolences to the Royal Family at this incredibly sad time."
