Rangers in white kit U turn claim as club insist anniversary strip will be worn in the future

Rangers have moved to clear up the mystery over the absence of their anniversary white shirt against Aberdeen.

The Ibrox side have been celebrating the landmark year ahead of their clash with the Dons with the commemorative kit.

The club had announced plans earlier this week to play in a special 'Gallant Pioneers' white jersey during the Ibrox giants' 150th anniversary celebrations.

However, the team warmed up with the special edition kit on show but did not take to the field in the one-off kit for the Premiership clash itself.

It led to raised eyebrows among supporters when James Tavernier led out the team in their usual royal blue home shirts, white shorts and red and black socks.

There would have been no issues with a clash of colours as Aberdeen wore their all-red home kit.

But Rangers now claim it was their decision to play the clash in blue as they "felt it was fitting to wear our traditional blue home strip."

The 'Gallant Pioneers' kit will be worn at another point during the season, it is noted.

A previous statement from the club, when announcing the strip this week, insists that it would be work for the visit of Jim Goodwin's side.

It read: "The 150-themed celebrations will continue on March 5 with our Gallant Pioneers-themed home Scottish Premiership match with Aberdeen.

"The first-team will also wear our very special Gallant Pioneers’ kit for this match.

"The Gallant Pioneers kit has been incredibly popular with supporters already this season and in anticipation of our birthday weekend, Castore will release a PRO edition of this kit which will be presented in a luxury, limited-edition gift box."
