Rangers hero pinpoints exciting talent as potential option for Ibrox role

Former Rangers star Alex Rae has highlighted Uddingston's Alex Lowry as one midfield option his ex-club can call and rely upon.

The Lanarkshire teenager was on the bench as Rangers stormed to an impressive 3-0 win in the first leg of their round of 16 Europa League match against Red Star Belgrade.

Lowry wasn't needed as goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Leon Balogun sealed an impressive win against the Serbian side.

While Aaron Ramsey and James Sands - who was substituted on - were senior midfield options for manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, it was Lowry who was suggested as a potential choice by Rae.

He said during the second half of BT Sport's commentary: "One of the issues they (Rangers) have is that they don't have an out-and-out midfielder to replace someone.

"They don't have an option for fresh legs other than young Lowry."

The midfielder made his debut and scored against Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup earlier this year.

Two more impressive displays against Livingston and Annan Athletic have since followed.
