Rangers handed yet another big injury boost ahead of Dundee Utd, fans will be buzzing - opinion
Glasgow Rangers have been handed yet another injury boost ahead of their upcoming Premiership fixture.
In recent comments cited by the Glasgow Evening Times, Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed that, alongside Alfredo Morelos, Fashion Sakala and Jon McLaughlin, Kemar Roofe could also be in line for a return to action against Dundee United on Sunday afternoon, after being left out of Gers’ matchday squad for the 4-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund as a result of a knock.
Speaking about the current condition of Sakala, McLaughlin and Roofe, the 47-year-old manager said: “We brought the squad to Germany with the players available. We couldn’t bring them with us. We have to see but, hopefully, they can be involved in the squad on Sunday.”
While it is true that, since the arrival of Van Bronckhorst at Ibrox back in November, Roofe has found regular game time somewhat hard to come by, the likely return of the centre-forward this weekend will nevertheless have left Rangers fans buzzing.
Indeed, so far under the management of the Dutchman, the £3.6m-rated hitman has featured in just seven matches – with only three of these appearances coming as starts – over which the 29-year-old has bagged two goals.
However, more generally, the £26k-per-week striker has been in decent form for Gers over his 16 Premiership appearances, scoring six goals and averaging a SofaScore match rating of 6.94.
As such, the return of the Jamaica international will undoubtedly come as a huge boost to Rangers’ chances of leaving Tannadice with all three points on Sunday afternoon, particularly if Van Bronckhorst is considering resting Morelos ahead of the pivotal Europa League second leg tie with Dortmund next week.
