Rangers: GVB tipped to make big starting XI decision vs Dortmund

Glasgow Times journalist Chris Jack expects Giovanni van Bronckhorst to pick Scott Arfield ahead of Fashion Sakala for Rangers’ Europa League match with Borussia Dortmund tonight at Ibrox.

Rangers go into the second leg of their Europa League tie with a 4-2 advantage after a thrilling win in Germany last week.

The Gers lost top spot in the Scottish Premiership at the start of the month when they were beaten 3-0 by Celtic.

Since then, they have bounced back well, though.

They are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions, leaving them just three points adrift of Celtic at the top of the table, while they have also progressed to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup, and are well-placed to move into the last 16 of the Europa League.

Sakala came off the bench in Rangers’ draw with Dundee United on Sunday after missing the first leg against Dortmund last week.

Jack has acknowledged that he could be pushing for a starting berth on Thursday night, but has tipped van Bronckhorst to stick with Arfield on this occasion, suggesting that Sakala could make an impact off the bench instead.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I would go for Scott Arfield tonight. If you think that Dortmund are going to have a lot of the ball, you need somebody that’s going to do the hard yards in terms of tracking and running back, and the marking.

“Scott Arfield has been an experienced European performer for Rangers for many years now, so I’d be surprised if he didn’t get the nod, but that doesn’t mean to say that Sakala wouldn’t have a part to play on the night.”

Ordinarily, taking a two-goal advantage into a second leg at home would mean that the tie is almost done.
