Rangers given instant Jordan Henderson response by Ajax after transfer exit rumour explodes

A madcap rumour touting Jordan Henderson for a move to Rangers looks to have been given a quick-fire answer by Ajax boss Francesco Farioli.

The veteran midfielder made the move to Amsterdam in January as he brought his spell in the Saudi Pro League with Steven Gerrard's Al Ettifaq to an abrupt halt to seal a move to Ajax. However, following the arrival of Farioli in the summer the 34-year-old has found opportunities hard to come by in the first-team.

The former Liverpool captain has made just three league appearances all season for the Dutch giants and reports have suggested he is exploring his options, and could look to secure a move back to Britain in the winter window. Premier League and English Championship sides are said to be showing an interest, while bookmakers have made the Light Blues one of the most likely destinations for the midfielder.

But in a sit-down interview with Gianluca Di Marzio, the Italian boss appears to have closed the door a mid-season exit for Henderson with speculation growing about his future. He insists the experience that the England international offers is key to the dressing room - despite a lack of on-field minutes.

Asked about a potential exit for Henderson, Farioli said: "He is an exceptional player, of great quality and leadership. He won the Champions League as captain, so I think he can explain well what it means to have a winning mentality and a good work ethic. There are many great ways to make a fundamental contribution to a young team like ours."
