Rangers fans share same Barcelona sigh of relief as Europa League draw is revisited after El Clasico thumping

Rangers fans were left breathing a sigh of relief that they managed to avoid Barcelona in the recent Europa League draw as they watched the Catalonians dismantle their great rivals Real Madrid 4-0.

The Bernabeu side were favourites for the El Clasico clash in the capital on Sunday night.

But the reborn Barca smashed the La Liga leaders 4-0 in a result that put world football on notice that the Blaugrana are back.

Following Lionel Messi's departure to PSG they struggled but now under the management of club legend Xavi Hernandez, and with the assistance of some astute signings such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they have turned into a different beast.

Aubameyang himself grabbed two goals with Ferran Torres and Ronald Araujo also on target.

And that left some Rangers supporters thankful they avoided Barcelona, who were paired with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League and will play the winners of West Ham vs Lyon if they get through that.

Some are dreaming of taking them on in the Seville final, with Braga the Gers' opposition and RB Leipzig or Atalanta lying in wait after that.

The reaction poured in on social media with a fan writing: "This is why I've been saying, Rangers fans, don't want Barca until the final, they are a different animal under Xavi."

Another added: "Wow what a goal by Barca. Some Rangers fans genuinely wanted to play them as well," with a pair of laughing emojis for good measure.

Some were bullish about the prospect of facing them in Spain with one replying to an ecstatic Barca fan: "Better enjoy it now because when Rangers play Barca in the Europa League Final they'll be getting this done to them."
