Rangers fans didn't buy Beale's vision for the future but James Bisgrove hopes Clement sales pitch can win them over

James Bisgrove's old job at Ibrox was essentially about making sure Rangers raised as much cash as they could by flogging kits and luring in sponsors.

Now the newly-installed chief exec’s role aspires to sell an entirely grander vision for the club’s future. Unfortunately for the former UEFA high-flyer, his customer base - the Rangers support - have stubbornly refused to buy into what’s been on offer so far this season. Michael Beale’s credit line with the fans ran out after a string of disastrous results which mean Gers now find themselves seven points in arrears to Celtic and fearing another Premiership campaign gone bust.

And the squad the Londoner re-constructed this summer is also now facing final demand letters too, with patience in the stands for players old and new running thin. Fixing this mess is going to be a tricky business for new boss Philippe Clement.

But former commercial director Bisgrove remains a salesman at heart and knows the Belgian’s best chance of succeeding is if together they can find a way to get the punters invested positively with the product on the park.

“When the team isn’t winning the supporters are frustrated and at times angry - we share in that frustration, admitted the 39-year-old. That was what underpinned the decision to part company with Michael and his staff. The standards didn’t meet the expectations in terms of performances.
