Rangers fans attacked by Eintracht Frankfurt ultras as police confirm five arrests

Five arrests were made in Seville last night following trouble between Rangers and Eintracht Frankfurt supporters ahead of this evening's Europa League final.

An estimated 80,000 fans of the Glasgow club are expected to be in the Spanish city tonight, although the club have only received 10,000 tickets for the game, with a huge group from Germany set to travel too.

But there were some ugly scenes in the city centre last night leading to five people being charged with public order offences. It is unclear how many of those were from Scotland or Germany but video footage posted online showed Eintracht ultras throwing fireworks at Rangers fan following an earlier altercation outside a nearby cathedral.

Earlier videos showed a large group of Rangers fans singing the "10 German bombers" chant in a pub.

Local authorities in Seville last week announced that they would segregate both fanbases on the day of the game but that did not go down well with some Rangers fans because the German fans have been given a square near the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium while those travelling from Scotland without tickets are being asked to watch on a big screen at Estadio La Cartuja, which is a 75 minute walk away.

Ahead of the trip a number of former Rangers players, including record goalscorer Ally McCoist and midfield legend Graeme Souness, warned fans to behave themselves.

Frankfurt supporters have caused problems in their past three rounds in the competition - including attacking West Ham fans during the round of 16 when both sides were playing 24 hours apart in Seville; thousands ending up in home seats for the win against Barcelona at Camp Nou; and further attacks on West Ham fans who were drinking in an Irish bar before the
