Rangers director of football whisper shut down as latest name in mix insists he's not leaving

Dimitri De Conde won't be joining Rangers as director of football after confirming he'll be staying at Genk.

The Ibrox club have been on the hunt for Ross Wilson's replacement for months and had hinted that they could make an appointment before the end of this month. De Conde has been linked, having worked with Philippe Clement in Belgium, where they delivered a league title for Genk. The Belgian was also linked with a similar role at Leeds United. But in an interview in a Belgian newspaper, De Conde was directly asked why he wasn't interested in going to Rangers.

He said: "It was also a signal to other clubs too. I am loyal to Genk. I love the club and I am a Limburger. I know the club and the management, we are a group of very ambitious comrades. That is rare in football. My ambition remains to make Genk the biggest club in Belgium.

"I signed a contract until 2029, but that does not necessarily mean I will be here until 2029 because if the club gets into sporting problems, I am responsible.

"But it was a gesture to show that I am still involved in Genk's long-term project.”
