Rangers backed by club legend to make surprise free transfer move for Wales hero Bale

Rangers legend Ally McCoist believes his former club should make a summer move for Gareth Bale, who is available on a free transfer.

The former Tottenham man is on the search for a new club following the expiry of his Real Madrid contract.

Bale has been linked with a move to Championship side Cardiff City, meanwhile, a switch to a MLS side has also been mooted.

Despite his failure to endear himself to many Madrid fans, and the Spanish press, Bale scored 106 goals in 258 matches for the Spaniards and helped them win an impressive five Champions League titles in nine years.

The 32-year-old helped Wales qualify for their first World Cup in 64 years with a play-off win against Ukraine on Sunday.

His international teammate, Aaron Ramsey, joined Rangers on loan in January but struggled for consistent game time and missed the decisive penalty in the Gers’ shoot-out loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Rangers legend McCoist admitted that a move to his boyhood club ‘makes sense’, but has urged the Scottish club to make an offer.

“Cardiff does make a lot of sense but it depends what he wants,” said McCoist (quotes via The Boot Room).

“I tell you what, if I was at Rangers now, I’d be offering him something.

“He’d play every week up here and he’d definitely do a job at Rangers.”
