Rangers B fire NINE goals past Clyde as David Goodwillie looked on from bench

Clyde fell to a heavy 9-0 defeat to Rangers B tonight in the City of Glasgow Cup as David Goodwillie looked on from the bench.

Goodwillie was signed by Raith Rovers from the Bully Wee in January but the fall-out from the move prompted a rethink, following protests against the decision. And it was announced on Tuesday that he had sealed a controversial return to Clyde on loan until the end of the season.

He was handed a spot on the bench for the clash and looked on as Clyde shipped nine goals.

Rangers took just six minutes to break the deadlock at the Rangers Training Centre through Andy Weston. They didn't double their advantage until the 38th minute when Ross McCausland got his name on the scoresheet and a Cole McKinnon penalty on the stroke of half-time gave the young Gers side a 3-0 interval lead.

Arron Lyall got in on the act after 54 minutes, before Weston headed home three minutes later to make it 5-0 with his second of the game.

McKinnon grabbed his brace in 63 minutes with a strike inside the box and substitute Darren McInally produced a fine finish for Rangers' seventh.

The youngsters weren't content with seven, however, and Charlie Lindsay wrapped things up with a quick-fire double, netting in 87 and 89 minutes to round-off a miserable night for an understrength Clyde outfit featuring a number of trialists.

The result leaves Clyde with just one point in the standings, while Rangers went above Queen's Park to go top of the table after two games.

In the next round of fixtures later this month Clyde face Queen's Park on March 15.
