Rangers and Celtic 'set to meet' in Sydney as Ange Postecoglou in line for Down Under derby homecoming

Rangers and Celtic are reportedly set to meet in a Down Under derby clash in November.

It has been claimed in Australia that the Old Firm rivals will take the world famous fixture almost 10,000 miles away to Sydney.

The match is due to be staged in November while the Scottish Premiership is on a five shutdown for the Qatar World Cup.

Scotland’s top flight will pause after the 16th round of fixtures on November 12/13 and not return to action until the weekend before Christmas.

And that gives clubs the opportunity to enjoy some warm weather training in preparation for the resumption of domestic action.

It’s during that period Rangers and Celtic are set to clash with the venue the spectacular 85,000 Stadium Australia in Sydney.

The Glasgow giants have previously been to Australia for pre-season with the Hoops sides going under both Tony Mowbray and Neil Lennon and the Light Blues during Walter Smith’s time in charge.

Both clubs have large fan bases Down Under and the arrival of former Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou has cranked interest up in Celtic in Australia.

There would be huge interest in a friendly encounter between the two bitter rivals at a time when international football will take centre stage.
