Rangers and Celtic B 'set for second season in Lowland League' ahead of crucial vote

Rangers and Celtic B teams are set to return to the Lowland League next term, despite their involvement in the Lowland League originally promised as being 'for one season only.'

The Glasgow sides have fielded teams in the fifth tier this season after being granted access last year, when then Lowland League chairman George Fraser stated it would "categorically" be a one-year deal.

However, Rangers and Celtic B are keen for their sides to play again in the 2022/23 campaign.

They side, who are unable to win the division/earn promotion to the SPFL under their current agreement with the Lowland League, have made a formal presentation to be included again next to term, according to the Daily Mail.

And member clubs will now vote on the matter at a general meeting on March 21.

A spokesman for the Lowland League said: “A formal discussion about any future involvement of guest clubs is scheduled to take place at our planned General Meeting with clubs later this month.

“As ever, we are open to ideas that can progress the Lowland League - and Scottish football as a whole - but it has to be a collaborative process with our members.”

Bonnyrigg Rose have already been crowned Lowland League champions this season and go forward to the promotion play-offs in a bid to reach SPFL League Two next season. Celtic B are currently second in the division, with Rangers B sitting fourth.
