Rangers: 26-goal striker would 'fit the bill' at Ibrox

Rangers target Ross Stewart would fit the bill at Ibrox, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Scottish Premiership runners-up are hoping to bolster their strike department his summer and have been linked with the Sunderland ace.

According to the Northern Echo, the Glasgow giants are targeting a move for the Scotland international as a potential replacement for Alfredo Morelos, providing he rejects a new contract offer, with his current deal running out in 12 months.

The report says that while the Colombian still has one year remaining, Rangers won’t run the risk of letting him leave for nothing next summer, meaning they’re already lining up replacements.

Meanwhile, it adds that manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has looked at other options, but the 25-year-old has emerged as his primary striker target this window.

Stewart is also about to enter the final year of his contract, meaning Sunderland could also be forced to sell to prevent him leaving on a free.

He started his career in Scottish football before catching the eye of the Black Cats, where he’s scored 29 goals in 66 games, 26 of which came last season, which was seven more than Morelos, as the Stadium of Light outfit returned to the Championship via the play-offs.

With that in mind, O’Rourke reckons he would be an ideal addition to Van Bronckhorst’s squad.
